About This Item
Philadelphia: Porter & Coates, 1881 Sienna brown cloth-covered beveled boards with ornate gilt, silver, and black cover illustration of angel beneath a bell. Angel image framed by detailed flower, title, small framed townscape, author's name on scroll, and other decorations; gilt spine lettering and publisher's colophon; all edges gilt. Solid endpapers. Illustrations throughout, engraved by Jas. W. Lauderbach. Moderate-to-heavy rubbing to cover extremities with corners of front board and spine tips frayed. Unfortunate corresponding dents to fore edges of front and rear board about 3" from top edge. Light random scuff marks and tiny stains to cover cloth. Except for intermittent tiny foxed spots to first several pages, including title page, interior is clean, tight, and unworn.
