New York: Whittlesey House, 1944. fair. 358, illus., bibliography, index, some foxing to text, bds soiled & stained, board & spine edges worn, cloth on rear board wrinkled. Elihu Thomson (1853-1937) was a major American inventor of electric light and power systems. A contemporary of Thomas Edison, Thomson performed the engineering and design work necessary to make electric lighting a common product. Pages 237-239 discuss the application of Thomson's process for electric welding to drilling the armor plate for battleships used in the Spanish-American War. Thomson moved his family away from the New England coast during the war because he feared Spanish bombardment.
