About This Item
Berkeley, CA: Red Mountain Tribe, 1970. Newspaper. 28 p., cover wrapper and centerspread both in colors (full 23x17 inch doublespread posters) folded tabloid, 11.5x17 inches, evenly toned, misfolded, else very good condition. Cover-as-poster shows Jiminy Cricket stumbling into Nixon/Pinocchio's penis-grown nose and harassed by US bombs; center poster is a portrait of Jorge Rebelo next to a revolutionary quotation. Stories within start: "We're not prepared to fight a war [police statement] ...and a shit storm's a comin!" [statement by armed hippie]; this story offers (A) astute prognostications about the future roles of Bay Area cities as planned by US elites, and (B) approval of breaking shopkeeper windows. Other stories: FBI capture of Linda Evans; Joan Bird bail set at $100,000; fighting in Northern Ireland; Berkeley cop cruelties; dangerous "abortion" pills are being distributed; officer Paul McGoran testifies against Los Siete; how to help the grape strikers; Atlanta Georgia repression / music / gay liberation; a hostile review of "The Strawberry Statement;" news from Mozambique, Chad, Angola and South Africa; and more.
