About This Item

Paris, France: Actes Sud, 2005. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. Paris, France: Actes Sud, 2005. Hardcover. Fine/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 352 pages. Retrospective Exhibition Monograph. The single most beautiful book on the photographic art and achievement of Bernard Faucon. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly the Softcover Edition (as shown on Amazon and other platforms) . Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original and sold in France only. The Softcover Edition has the same ISBN as the Hardcover. Furthermore, most copies of the book were issued in Softcover only. None of the copies was commercially distributed outside France. There is NO American Edition. The First Hardcover Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Bernard Faucon and ACTES Sud: Oversize-volume format. Pictorial hard boards with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs and photo-tableaux by Bernard Faucon. Essays by various contributors in the French original. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Paris to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is exemplary in every respect. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in its Hardcover Edition format, "Bernard Faucon: Photographie". A magnificent retrospective of Bernard Faucon's one-of-a-kind, visionary work, which remains unsurpassed in the history of photography. Includes his masterpiece, "Summer Camp", in its entirety, as well as its just as brilliant sequel-collections. Each image is presented in a significantly enlarged page-format as compared to the original editions, which showed the images in a reduced size, and in a small-size volume format. Bernard Faucon struggled to get his work published because of its controversial content, which represents his very own celebration and evocation of childhood, its rituals and its taboo-fantasies, especially sexualized ones, which we ignore at our peril. For there is such a thing as childhood sexuality. It is fully evolved from Freud's "polymorphous-perverse" model, and is indeed primarily focussed on the genitals. Faucon's imagery is lyrical rather than lurid, rapturous rather than provocative, poetic rather than mundane. As a result, it is even more controversial for many censorious viewers. An absolute "must-have" title for Bernard Faucon collectors. This copy is very boldly, elaborately, and beautifully signed, dated, and inscribed in French in a riot of delicate pastel colors using various pen-markers by Bernard Faucon. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. The recipient, who is named, is unmistakably personally known to the artist/photographer. Faucon signs every copy of his books in this elaborate manner as an artwork trademark. His signature is, in effect, an extension of his lyrical and rapturous images. This title is a great art photography book. As far as we know, this is the only such signed, dated, and inscribed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Should NOT be confused with the Softcover Edition, which has the same ISBN as the Hardcover, and through which most copies were issued by the publisher. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with color plates. One of the greatest visionary artist/photographers of the 20th century and our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER BERNARD FAUCON TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 2742756671.
