About This Item

Madrid: 2006. 353 pages, Illustrated in colour and monochrome throughout. Cloth 31x24cms. ISBN: 8493464031. Also known as the Pintor de las Pastoras after his representations of the Virgin as a shepherdess, this artist was an influential member of the Academie de San Fernando although he declined the offer of becoming a court painter. His works have often been attributed to Murillo, and his still life and trompe l'oeil works were highly regarded during his lifetime. This monograph places the artist within the historic framework of 18th century Spanish painting and includes a catalogue raisonné of extant works. Text in Spanish. Catalogue raisonné.
