All edges gilt. Multipe coloured shell marbled end-papers. Engraved book label of one Thihavsky - Lieutenant Colonel d'Artillerie pasted onto front paste-down. Folio. (405 x 265 mm). Extremeties rubbed, three tiny traces of worming to covers.
First and only edition. A report of a commission initiated by the Austrian archduke Charles to investigate effective wood-burning stoves in public and private premises. The furnaces for military facilities, hospitals and schools, prisons and bathing establishments, as well as cooking hobs for public facilities, laundry kettles and stoves for industrial purposes of dyeing and cloth manufacture are shown on the plates, together with thorough tabular listings of production costs, maintenance and consumption data. Furthermore recommendations for furnaces for private use with a detailed listing of the building materials needed including some building instructions given in the enclosed descriptions. Printed on blueish paper with v. Schönfeld'schen Schriften, broadmargined, a fine large paper copy. A remarkable book richly illustrated, describing an early state induced initiative for a more sustainable exploitation of precious wood resources in public, private and commercial heating installations.
