Service while he was working as a bank teller in Whitehorse, Yukon. In the United States, the book was published under the title The Spell of the Yukon and Other Verses and in Canada Songs of a Sourdough. The book is well known for its verse about the Klondike Gold Rush in the Yukon a decade earlier, particularly the long, humorous ballads, "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" and "The Cremation of Sam McGee." His poems depicting not just the hard lives and isolation of Yukon prospectors but also the drinking, gambling, and prostitution that was prevalent in Dawson City. A clean near pristine copy.
