New York: J.B. Ford & Company, 1876. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Hardcover, small octavo bound in publisher's red brick cloth over beveled boards, lettered in gold and decorated in black [binding B]. Illustrated with frontispiece, with tissue guard, and 3 additional plates. First American edition, preceded by a British edition a year previous (1875) of a similar collection issued as "Deacon Pitkin's Farm, etc." Mild wear to spine ends and some rubbing to tips and outer joints. Incidental brief sporadic foxing. No previous ownership marks. Not ex-library. A clean, solid and unmarked copy. Very good. BAL19484; Merle Johnson's American First Editions, fourth edn., p. 482. .
