About This Item
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1985. First edition. Hardcover. Peter Parnall. SIGNED. Slim square octavo [26 cm] Library edition, with sturdy pictorial cloth over boards - not an ex-library book. Near fine condition. The price-clipped dust jacket is in very good condition, with modest soiling, and 6 small, closed tears in the edges. The longest closed tear measures 1" deep. The Utah naturalist author's scarce second book. Signed by the author in her customary spot next to a Peter Parnall drawing of a marsh on the second page. First printing, with the complete number row down to one. Beautifully illustrated by Peter Parnall, who was also the illustrator for Edward Abbey's Desert Solitaire. A juvenile title about life in the Bear River Migratory Bird refuge, a freshwater marsh on the shores of the Great Salt lake in Utah.
