About This Item

London: John Long, Ltd., 1925. First UK edition. Octavo. Publisher's original purple cloth with titles in gilt to the spine, in dustwrapper. Bottom edge untrimmed. Illustrated with 111 black and white photographs and two folding maps. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little wear and fading to the spine ends and a chip to the head of the spine. The contents with some occasional light foxing are otherwise in very good order throughout. The folding maps remain clean and crisp. The original dustwrapper with loss to the head of the spine panel, short splits to the joints, a little wear to the extremities, and some light scattered marking is otherwise also very good. A wide-ranging account of the adventures of the American journalist, war correspondent and travel writer Edward Alexander Powell (1879-1957) across East Africa during the early 1920s, copiously illustrated with original photographs by the author and Rexford W. Barton. Uncommon in the original early dustwrapper.
