This book was one of the six titles Dr. Seuss Enterprises withdrew from publication in March 2021 due to "hurtful and wrong" content; in this case, for an insensitive portrayal of a Middle Eastern character. Quarto. Original pictorial boards, spine and boards lettered in white, blue illustrated endpapers. With dust jacket. Colour illustrations throughout by the author. Two ownership inscriptions to front free endpaper verso. Toned, extremities rubbed, touch of wear to corners, a very good copy with contents bright, in the unclipped jacket, spine faded, extremities creased and a little nicked, closed tear of 47 mm to front flap fold, a few faint watermarks to panels, a very good example, presenting well. Younger & Hirsch 63.
Synopsis
On Beyond Zebra! is an illustrated children's book by Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. This book fits into the genre of literary nonsense. The young narrator, not content with the confines of the ordinary alphabet, invents additional letters beyond Z, with a fantastic creature corresponding to each new letter. The creatures include favorites such as the Floob-Boober-Bab-Boober-Bubs, large buoyant heads which float serenely in the water.
