About This Item

Penguin Books, London, 1969. Book. Very Good. Soft cover. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. First edition (first printing) of the author's first book, an account of the Nigerian Civil War. This copy signed by the author by way of a title-specific bookplate pasted to the title verso. 8vo. 237pp. Card wrappers (not issued in casebound format until the new edition of 1983). Edges spotted. With a little toning to the paperstock and some quite noticeable fading to the publisher's red spine panel colouring. Contemporary former owner name and date inked to the base of the first leaf. A nice crisp copy. Forsyth spent the first six months of 1967 in Nigeria reporting on the conflict for the BBC, and also most of the following two years as a freelance journalist after the BBC decided to abandon its cover age of the conflict. The material he gathered resulted in this, his first book..
