Amsterdam: P. van Rijschoten, M. Bout, I. Schot, A. vander Putten en haar Compagnie, 1682. Book. Very Good. Full-Leather. 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. The holy bible in Dutch. Separate title page for the New Testament (dated 1682) and the Psalms (1683). Original black leather binding, all edges gilt with decorations. A rare example of gauffering, a technique which involved impressing a pattern into the edges of a book after they had been gilded, using warmed finishing tools or rolls. This labor-intensive form of decoration never became common, and by the mid-1600s it had mostly died out. A few old library stamps and markings on endpapers and verso of title page but no markings on the binding, old name stamp, old handwritten name "Jacob van Caron".
