About This Item

Harpur & Sons, Derby, first editions, 1976 and 1978. Editions limited to 1030 signed copies and 900 copies. 2 vols, cloth, 8vo, 23 cm,. 288 and 143 pp, 16 pages of plates. 1,414 items. The best bibliography of conjuring, providing full bibliographical descriptions and capturing as many books and pamphlets of any significance as practicable. Toole Stott travelled extensively to view virtually all the important collections, both institutional and private, so with only two or three exceptions had examined all the works he describes in the first volume and familiarized himself with the work's contents as well as its collation. The second volume adds many more items drawn from the Lloyd Jones/Byron Walker collection. Each volume is divided into sections on works having a direct link with conjuring and legerdemain, and those having a narrower or borderline connection. Locations of all books are given. Mild offsetting to endpapers of Volume II, otherwise Fine in Near Fine dustwrappers. Volume I signed by the author. Erratum slip laid in. Prospectus laid in.
