Geneva: Imprimerie De La Bibliotheque Universelle, 1832. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall. First Edition of first book by Rodolphe Topffer (1799-1846); author, cartoonist, painter, considered the father of comics. Published anonymously in 1832; 78 pp.; frontispiece lithograph by Lugardon. Green, red & black marbled paper over boards; red & gilt leather spine label. Edges rubbed, scattered foxing. This copy bought at the Robert Hoe sale May 1911 by Edward Harmon Virgin. Small brown & gilt leather Robert Hoe ex libris and Edward Harmon Virgin ex libris on front endpaper. Note on rear endpaper of the purchase of this book at the Hoe sale. There is a facsimile edition (1923) of this edition with Topffer's drawings.
