Pp. 254+[2]((colophon, verso blank)+36(publisher's catalogue, dated Autumn 1936), coloured frontispiece, plus 4 black & white plates, glossary of terms; cr. 8vo; blue cloth, lettered in gilt, with gilt sundial at foot of spine, the boards slightly scuffed, edges lightly rubbed; lacking the upper free endpaper and with inked ownership inscription on both pastedowns (each slightly offset onto the opposite page), bookseller's sticker at foot of upper pastedown, the text block slightly browned, hinges starting at a couple of points, bottom fore-corners of a few leaves lightly creased, unobtrusive blind address stamp to fore-edge margin of several leaves, scattered foxing (including the plates) and occasional light soiling; John Hamilton Limited, London, n.d.[c. 1936?]. Early reprint? The "Ace" series. *First published in 1934, this was the third Biggles book published by John Hamilton, and the first to use the nickname 'Biggles' in the title. The publisher's catalogue in the first edition was 28 pages, and was dated Spring 1934.
