About This Item

New York: The Ecco Press, 1987. First edition. Hardcover. g to vg. Folio. 59, [5]pp. Original photo-illustrated dust-jacket over black cloth, with blind-stamped lettering to spine. Half-title handsigned by Bill Burke.

In this collection of Burke's portraits of residents of Kentucky, the deep South, and other regions, critic Andy Grundberg compares the photographer's work to Walker Evans' portraits of Southern tenant farmers, Mike Disfarmer's Heber Springs, Arkansas portraits, and Richard Avedon's "In the American West." An unsettling viewpoint of small town and country folks in 32 striking duo-tone portraits.

Sporadic rubbing along edges of dust-jacket (mostly at head of spine). DJ in overall good- to good, binding and interior in very good condition.
