About This Item
London: George Bell and Sons, 1888. Second edition. Second edition. 8vo. (6.5 x 4.2 inches). Bound in exquisite full dark blue morocco with attractive decorative black and grey onlaid designs at perimeter of both covers, with gilt dots and a single gilt ruled border. Spine with raised bands and compartments lettered, ruled and decorated in gilt. Superb wide dentelles with elaborate gilt decorated design, full crushed tan morocco doublures with matching endpapers also in morocco. All edges gilt. The AuthorÃs Own Copy, with a word in one of Keats's poem corrected in ink and initialed ëS. W. 1921à in the margin. A fine copy, in a beautiful fine leather binding. The book is housed in a superb custom two-piece slip case (slightly scuffed), with felt lining in the lower part where the book slides into a blue leather entry case within a brown morocco faux book and when the top is placed on the whole case, resembles a full morocco bound volume with raised bands and blind tooled ruled lines and lettering. A truly beautiful and finely executed deluxe leather binding. The binding is unsigned but certainly the work of a master bookbinder.
