To Which is Prefixed, an Introduction, Containing a Brief Account of the Painters of Antiquity." Vol. I only. xlix, [1], 709, [1] p., 5 leaves of plates; 28 cm. Original? red cloth boards with later brownish-red cloth spine; gilt-stamped spine title: Bryan's Dictionary of Painters A-L. All page edges speckled red. This volume contains the monograms used by engravers and entries from Aalst to Luyken; an alphabetical index for vol. 1; and the Errata for vol. 1. Front pastedown bears small green and white bookseller's label for Foyles of Charing Cross Rd., London. Small pencilled marginalia. A very scarce copy of the second volume of this important set of reference books. In Very Good Condition: boards are rubbed and lightly soiled; corners are bumped; scattered light foxing; marginalia as noted above, otherwise pages are clean and tight.
