About This Item

Plano, IL: Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1880. Second edition. Hardcover. 312pp. Sextodecimo [16 cm] Red cloth covered boards with a gilt stamped title on the front cover and blind stamped decorative patterns on the covers. Fair condition only. The covers are rubbed. The spine is slightly rolled and faded. There are several very small stains on the spine and surrounding area. The endsheets are cracked along the hinges, and the text block is beginning to come away from the covers. A contemporary owner has written his name twice on the front endsheet. The rear free endsheet has a former owner's brief notation, and there is a small chip in the fore edge. The text block is cracked multiple times. Pp. 115-137 are hanging on by a thread. Very occasional light foxing and marks in pencil. Flake 8081. Lacks the three poems by Eliza R. Snow. The contents of this volume have caused great controversy since it's original publication. Lucy Mack Smith (1776-1856) wrote the memoir based on her family history and the religious revelations of her son Joseph Smith (1805-1844).
