A "Prefatory Letter" is addressed to "my first book" re-issued in finer dress than the 1888 first edition with Wireman illustrations. Wiggins first published this story privately in 1886 in support of the first free kindergarten in San Francisco, which she led from 1878-81.

Former owner name in childish pencil twice on the front endpaper ("Dotty Lobrano") is that of Dorothy Lobrano Guth, goddaughter of E. B. White, longtime New Yorker staffer and editor of The Letters of E. B. White.
