Light green coloured tint to the top text block edge. Bumping, rubbing and creasing to the head and to the heel of the back strip and bumping to the top book corners. Shelf wear to the lower edges and there are some stains to the top edge. The internal pages have become slightly tanned and the text block edge is brown and stained to the front fore edge. Illustrated dustwrapper, by Helen Cherry, with yellow and green writing on the front panel and back strip. Rubbing and a little creasing to the dustwrapper corners and to the dustwrapper edges. White of the background has become somewhat dull and yellowed. The story of a man who has been obsessed with canaries since his 13th birthday. We find him at the beginning of the story in a mental hospital just after the end of the Second World War. His psychiatrist brings in a childhood friend to help with the cure of Birdy.
