About This Item

New York, New York: Eugenics Publishing Co. Inc., 1923. First Edition Later Printing . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Two-part volume by a pioneering doctor who was part of the modern birth control movement in the US in the early 20th century. Part I presents arguments for limiting childbearing & addresses counterarguments. Part II reviews specific methods of preventing contraception & weighs their relative advantages & disadvantages. A fascinating look at the origins of the birth control movement in light of underlying eugenics concerns, in 174 pages with Index, ads for other sex titles in rear. Orig. published in 1916, this edition is from 1932, with a Preface to the Twenty Fifth Edition (1923) alongside earlier prefaces in front, in which he evaluates the current status of the movement. Introduction by former President of the AMA, A. Jacobi. With yellow textured cloth over boards, this hardcover is in Good+ condition: generally very clean, with slight soiling/page dusting. Off-white pages tanned, heavier around edges, commensurate with age. Binding secure, hinges intact. NO writing/underlining/highlighting; not ex-lib. Flaws: moderate rubbing to extremities, bumping to all corners & both ends of spine. No DJ.
