About This Item
New York: Doubleday, Doran & Company / The Crime Club, 1943. First Edition. Woolrich's fifth "Black" book, basis for the 1946 film noir starring Dan Duryea, Peter Lorre, and June Vincent. First Printing. Octavo; black cloth, with titles stamped in white on spine and front panel; 300pp. Spine ends gently nudged, lower right corners gently tapped (though still sharp), with a tiny, barely-discernable stamp from an Argentine bookshop on lower rear endpaper; clean throughout, Very Good+ or better. Dustjacket is unclipped, rubbed and worn overall, with several tears, some splitting starting along joints, with a triangular chip at lower left corner of rear panel; the most obvious flaw is the swath of adhesive residue on the verso of both flaps - evidence the jacket was clearly removed from another copy, and supplied to the present one; Good.
