London: Jonathon Cape, 1923. First edition First printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very good plus. Review slip laid in. Lengthy inscriptions by Coppard on the front free endpaper; "For William Macey Stone of U.S.A., In whom kindness is instructive, & forbearance a pleasure. There is nothing so hard to repay as simple kindness & so I am still his debtor. [signed] A.E. Coppard, Diano Marina, 14th March 1931 (and a cold windy day by the choice of God)" Stone was a bibliophile and collector and wrote a few books on bookplates, bibles, miniatures, childrens books, etc. Listed in Bleiler, The Checklist of Fantastic Literature [1972], pg 83. Collects sixteen of Coppard's stories. There was no limited edition published for this title. Quarter bound in black cloth over green paper covered boards with paper title label on the spine. From the library of John K. Martin, publisher of Black Sparrow Press, with his small exlibris label on the rear endpaper. Near fine in very good plus dust jacket with a few tape reinforcements to the reverse.
