Clean hardcover book in unclipped original dust jacket, complete with "The Guide" in rear pocket. Unfaded green cloth boards with bright gold lettering on cover and spine. No fraying or wear, except for tiny bump to front board edge. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages and edges are clean with map-illustrated endpapers. No names, writing or marks. Illustrated with beautiful black and white photographs. 383 pages with index. "The Guide" in rear pocket is in perfect condition, gives information on mileages, roads, scenic wonders, monuments, etc. Clean illustrated dust jacket is not price clipped, has a few small edge chips. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. Historically the author traces the chronicle of the Black Hills from their opening to whites and the rush for gold in 1874--the rise and fall of boom towns, the change to cow towns, to agricultural towns, and the gradual metamorphosis into towns of the more modern era. Casey tells the story of the characters who made Black Hills History, from Custer and Wild Bill and Calamity Jane to Calvin Coolidge and Gutzon Borglum..
