THE BLACK MOUNTAIN REVIEW

by Creeley, Robert [ed]

  • Used

Black Mountain, Autumn 1957.. Whole number seven (final number). Small octavo. Printed decorated wrapper by Edward Corbett. About fine. Edited by Robert Creeley and distinguished associates. Distributed by Jonathan Williams. One of the most significant "group" periodicals of the post-WWII years, published as an extension of the creative fervor at work at Black Mountain College, printing the works of teachers, students and sympathetic spirits. An earlier prototype was issued prior to the published sequence, but lasted only a single (scarce) issue. The regular issues were printed in editions ranging from 500 to 750 copies, and contributors. Contributors to this number include Dahlberg, Read, Ginsberg, Kerouac, Zukofsky, Mangan, J. Williams, W.C. Williams, Whalen, Oppenheimer, Selby, Levertov, Snyder, Crews, Dorn, et al. This final number was distributed by Jonathan Williams, and is somewhat less common than earlier issues. Some copies bear stickers announcing Williams's role, but not this copy. ANDERSON & KINZIE, p.248ff. CLAY & PHILLIPS, p.109.
