About This Item

1971. First Edition First Printing 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket. Collins, Paul. An attempt to present "a personal, intimate portrait of Africa as it really exists today both in the city & in the bush,'' with the "special sympathies" of black photographer Collins, who journeyed with his infant son & writer Lee to trace this ancestors over an 18-month excursion to the Western African republics of Senegal & Gambia, which commenced in 1969. In 126 pages, with decorative endpapers, 30 original paintings by Collins, & complementary text by Lee. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1971, this hardcover quarto has tan & deep brown faux-leather over boards, stamped with black lettering to front & spine. Mild bumping to the center of the bottom edges of both front & rear boards & very slight corner bumping. No DJ.
