New York: Basic Books, 1968. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. Good in a Good jacket, unclipped ($5.95), generally soiled, bumped at the edges. Black cloth, mottling throughout, red and purple gilt lettering on the spine. Square and firmly bound with a red top stain with some rubbing, former owner's name on the front endpaper. Touted as "the first book ever to examine the full range of Negro life from the vantage point of psychiatric knowledge," in which the authors, "tell of the insidious effects of the still-living heritage of slavery; of the almost hopeless struggle of the black boy and girl to achieve the pride of a healthy manhood and womanhood; of love, marriage, and the family; of the sexual myths and fears in both races," among others.
