About This Item

New York: Random House, 1956. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed. 7.5" by 5". None. A nicely bound first edition copy of Paul's detective novel, in the original dust wrapper. First edition. In the original price-clipped dust wrapper. 'The Black and the Red' is a detective novel by Elliot Paul. It follows Detective Homer Evans as he examines a Las Vegas mystery involving both gangsters and atomic scientists. Elliot Paul (1891-1958) was an American journalist and author. He worked for the Chicago Tribune and the Paris Herald, as well as the experimental literary journal 'transition'. He was a close friend to both James Joyce and Gertrude Stein. Collated, complete. In the original cloth binding, in the price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with no noticeable faults other than a bit o fading to top edge of boards. Prior owner's pencil inscription to front paste down. Dust wrapper is very smart, with a few marks to the wraps and very minimal edge wear. A bit of age-toning to the reverse of wraps with residue left from sticker on one of the fly leaves. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Near Fine
