About This Item

Fayetteville Arkansas: The University of Arkansas Press, 1996. First Edition. . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. F/F/1st ed., 1st. prntng./Signed. Black Savannah focuses upon efforts of African Americans, free and slave, who worked together to establish and maintain a variety of religious, social, and cultural institutions to carve out niches in the larger economy: and to form cohesive families. The result was an autonomous black community in a key city of the Old South. Among the most interesting groups that created Savannah's community, however, were "nominal slaves," slaves in name only who lived apart from their masters, seeking and finding their own employment. Book Condition is Fine; marbled black and white paper over boards with black cloth over spine, white lettering. 242pp. First Edition, first printing. Boldly signed and inscribed on half title page. Notes, Bibliography, index. Several appexdix. Book is clean, and tightly bound. No writing or markings to interior. Very attractive due to marbled paper exterior. Dust jacket Condition is Fine; clean glossy jacket with price intact. One small light crease on back cover. No nicks or tears. Covered with a removable mylar dust jacket.
