Special editor for this volume of The Annals, Jack Greenberg (1924-2016), was Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, the successor in that office to U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall (1908-1993), the first African American to sit on that court.
