Hobart: Blubber Head Press., 1979. Limited edition, one of 30 copies "signed by the editor and bound in half leather by Peter Thomas of Adelaide", this being number 15. Octavo. Half navy-blue calf over blue cloth boards, ruled in gilt; the spine with five raised bands, gilt decorated compartments, gilt whale device to the bottom compartment, and titles in gilt. Pictorial endpapers. Illustrated with a black and white frontispiece, 21 further black and white illustrations, and three folding maps. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a touch of rubbing to the spine. The contents with some scattered foxing to the edges of the textblock are otherwise in very good order. A collection of early titles relating to New South Wales, comprising reproductions of George Blaxland's 'A Journal of a Tour of Discovery Across the Blue Mountains in New South Wales' (1823); Blaxland's Journal, prefaces to the 1870 and 1904 editions; William Lawson's 'The Journal...' (1813); William Charles Wentworth's 'The Journa...' (1813); Government and General Orders (10th June 1815); George William Evans's 'Sketch of a Tour on Discovery among the Mountains West of Sidney, in New South Wales' (1815); 'An Officer of the 101st Regiment: Narrative of an Expedition to explore the Territory beyond the Blue Mountains (1815); Gregory Blaxland's letters (1815-1816); Blaxland's daily journal, the copy sent to Sir Joseph Banks (1816); Blaxland's letter and 'Narrative' sent to Commissioner Bigge in November 1819; Wentworth's two letters to Earl Bathurst (1817); and Wentworth's 'Australasia' (dedication, reference note, extract, notes); plus a lengthy introductory essay by the editor.
A scarce deluxe edition, handsomely bound.
