London, Bradbury & Evans, 1853 1st edition. Hardback 8vo. approx 8.5 x 6 inches. Halfbound green polished calf with marbled paper to boards, gilt banding to spine with gilt lettered leather spine label. Grey endpapers. Speckled page edges. Deighton Binding. In very good condition. Some rubbing and bumps to spine, some rubbing to boards and corners / edges. Binders label to corner of front endpaper “Deighton, Worcester.” Neat inscription to following prelim “George Still Clifton, Ripple Rectory 1850.” There is some mild foxing to plates, but overall very clean and bright compared to most examples of this age, and many plates still remain very clean with only some minor spots around edges. Complete with issue points (see additional notes). Else a very good clean and tight 1st edition. 624pp. Illustrated Frontis., pict.hf.title & 38 B&W etched plates by H.K. Browne. With first issue points, as identified by Eckel: 'elgble' to page 19 line 6, 'chair' to page 209 line 23, 'counsinship' to page 275 line 22, and 'picter' to page 529 line 32.
