About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Reynal & Hitchcock, 1946. First American Edition . Hardcover. Good/Good-. A non-Maigret, stand-alone novel of psychological intrigue set in the south of France involving a rich local woman & a mysterious Russian émigré. Orig. published in French in 1946 as "Chemin sans Issue,'' this is the First Printing of the first American edition from Reynal & Hitchcock. With tan cloth-covered boards stamped in black lettering to front & spine, this hardcover small 8vo is in Good condition: generally very clean, but exterior shows staining from discoloration of old mylar on DJ. First signature of pages is loosened from stitched binding at bottom; else, binding secure, pages creamy white & unmarked. The DJ, clipped at both corners of front flap, is only Good-: colors bright, with light soil & missing about 1" chip from head of spine; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover.
