The conditions during the 7-month campaign were close to intolerable; constant rain, dense humid jungle, mud, malaria, insects. The victory was a turning point, being the first major victory in the Pacific, and effectively prevented the potential launch of a Japanese attack against Australia.. Hard Cover.
