Chicago: University of Chicago Press (1974), 1974. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good+. 8vo. [5], vi-xvii, [1], 260, [2] pp. Orange cloth with orange lettering on the spine. Illustrated with several black and white photographs. Foreword by Morris Janowitz. Kornblum's ethnography of South Chicago between 1968 and 1970, heavily focused on mill workers and the different ethnic groups of the South Side of Chicago, and how the different groups interacted in politics and leisure. The author investigates why there was no push for a working-class political movement in the United States. Finally, Kornblum examines how labor unions, ward politics, and working conditions in the mills affected racial tensions. An intriguing study of mid-century Chicago, as seen from a working-class perspective. A Near Fine book with a touch of bumping to the corners; jacket is Very Good+ with a few hints of edge wear and a faint dampstain on the reverse of the spine panel.
