About This Item
new york: doxey's at the sign of the lark, 1901. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. the original extremely rare first edition done in 600 copies of which this is number 124. Each copy hand numbered. Beautiful black cloth boards with woman holding sword in multi color art deco cover. Wear to spine ends and corners and light edge and surface wear. Back cover is a bit bowed and there is a vintage (1902) " compliments of" note on front end page in nice script. Contents are in excellent shape but the inside hinges are starting to split. 131 pages the last page is printed with ITE MISSA EST and there is no blank page at the back if there ever was one. Top page edges gilt and rest untrimmed. Photos available on request. No author listed as Barnitz insisted on remaining anonymous. The young harvard grad then killed himself shortly after the publication. Considered a masterpiece of decadent and nihilistic verse.
