First Published in November 1936, from the recently discovered original journal of 1773. Private papers of James Boswell from Malahide Castle, Isham Collection. Prepared for the Press, with Preface and Notes by Frederick A. Pottle and Charles H. Bennett. Original red cloth with black title panel on spine with bright and sharp gilt titles. Very clean and ubmarked, spine sunned. Upper corner slightly bumped, whisper of wear to some extremities. Tight and solid sewn binding. Rough cut. Frontispiece: a fold-out map of the Tour through Scotland and the Hebrides, in 1773. Four b&w photographic plates of the original manuscript and a line sketch by Boswell of Rorie More's Claymore, Dunvegan. Pages very clean and completely unmarked, evenly toned. Small 4to volume. No dust jacket. A very good clean, solid volume. xviii, 435 pages with Index. 9.5 x 6.75 inches. 1936, The Viking Press, USA
