Boards are bowed.Book has a forward lean.

The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white line drawings and illustrations. Red coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured decoration and embossed titles to the front panel and back strip. First published in 1899 a classic work on botany that was used as a textbook for many generations. Bumping and a little fraying of the book corners with the underlying board visible. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with dulling of the cloth of the board with handling marks visible. Age toning to the text block edges along with some spotting. Offset tanning and a little foxing to the end pages and previous owners name has been in expertly scrubbed out to the top edge of the free front end page.
