NY: Little, Brown and Company, 1959. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. First edition. Octavo; 243pp.; black textured paper boards, in dust jacket. A very near fine copy, lightly bumped at bottom corners and base of spine. In a very good, unclipped "$3.95" jacket showing light wear and a few small spots of loss at spine ends and tips. A nice copy of Mitchell's most fully realized collection of essays about New York, which demonstrate his impeccable prose and deeply human curiosity.
Synopsis
Joseph Mitchell came to New York from North Carolina the day after the 1929 stock market crash. After eight years as a reporter and feature writer at various newspapers, he joined the staff of The New Yorker, where he remained until his death in 1996 at the age of eighty-seven. His other books include McSorley's Wonderful Saloon, My Ears Are Bent, Up in the Old Hotel, Old Mr. Flood, and Joe Gould's Secret.

Unless otherwise requested, expedited domestic purchases ship via USPS Priority Mail; overseas orders via USPS First Class International. Heavy or oversized books may incur additional shipping charges, as may books shipped to overseas destinations. Any additional charges required will be communicated promptly.
We take safe shipping very seriously; all of our books are packaged in new cardboard boxes amply cushioned with biodegradable packing peanuts. Pamphlets and other flat materials items are ocassionally shipped in bubble-mailers with internal cardboard supports.
