New York: Printed for the Museum, 1884-1891. Undetermined. very good. 1st Edition. Octavo. Seven annual reports with original wrappers bound in contemporary red cloth with paper spine labels. Cloth rubbed and discoloured. Hinges reinforced with cloth. With attractive art deco book plate of the Colorado Scientific Society on front pastedown and their handstamps and penned catalogue number to each issue, else internally tight and clean. very good An interesting collection of 19th century reports from the American Museum of Natural History. Each report details the fiscal and organisational activities of the museum as well a donors and activities in the library. Perhaps most interestingly, a report on the animals present in the Central Park Menagerie is bound at the front of the volume. The impressive list of animals exhibited includes 1 hippopotamus, several monkeys, a polar bear, an elephant, and a rhinoceros. The Central Park Zoo opened in 1864 and was the first "official" zoo in New York. 1884
