About This Item

This is the catalog for a traveling exhibition that started at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in December 1987 and was installed at several institutions over the next two years, ending at the Renwick Gallery in Washington D.C. in 1989.

The focus of the exhibiton was the many fine bindings of limited edition copies of Melville's Billy Budd, Sailor.

Illustrated with photographs of many of these.
