The novel was published in 2004 and is a sequel to 1990's The Bourne Ultimatum. He has also written three more novels in the series, The Bourne Betrayal, The Bourne Sanction, The Bourne Deception, with a fourth novel, The Bourne Objective slated for release in 2010.
