Oblong 4to [249 x 303 mm]. Series of 6 lithographs contemporary colored, the first two plates a little yellowed. Green buckram bradel, eggplant morocco title on the first plate.

Very rare suite of lithographs in first issue dedicated by Henry Monnier to Parisian stores.

The illustration is composed of 6 humoristic lithographs by Delpech after Henri Monnier, enhanced with watercolors at the time: Marchandes de Modes, Un Café, Apothicaire, Marchand d'Estampes, Bouquiniste, Restaurateur.

Henry Monnier (1799-1877) was a French playwright, caricaturist and actor. Between 1827 and 1832, he produced several albums of lithographs, sketching the morals and physiognomies of his contemporaries, from the grisette to the office worker.

Très rare suite de lithographies en premier tirage consacrées par Henry Monnier aux boutiques parisiennes.

L'illustration se compose de 6 lithographies humoristiques par Delpech d'après Henri Monnier, rehaussées à l'aquarelleà l'époque : Marchandes de Modes, Un Café, Apothicaire, Marchand d'Estampes, Bouquiniste, Restaurateur.

" L'exécution matérielle de ces lithographies est excellente. 'Monnier surveillait attentivement le travail des coloristes, malgré l'habileté des ouvrières de l'atelier Meilhac, l'industriel auquel on doit un spirituel auteur dramatique et un 'Traité du coloris des lithographies', 1836 " (Champfleury). (Béraldi, Les graveurs du XIXe siècle).

Henry Monnier (1799-1877) est un dramaturge, caricaturiste et acteur français. Entre 1827 et 1832, il réalise plusieurs albums de lithographies, croquant les mœurs et physionomies de ses contemporains, de la grisette à l'employé de bureau.

" On le voit, s'il y a caricature, c'est d'une caricature facétieuse qu'il s'agit, empreinte d'humour, encline à la satire joyeuse qui vise à détrôner la vanité, à épingler les ridicules… " (J.-L. Cabanès, La fantaisie post-romantique, p. 461).

Bel exemplaire de cette rare suite de lithographies coloriées à l'époque.
