A Combination of a Classical Tour Guide with Local Health Benefits and Deficiencies Detailed.

Detailed descriptive text on cities and journeys (primarily by road) within France, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. With an appendix on climate issues, particularly in Italy; the remedial adaptation of climate; consideration on some prevalent causes of disease and the remedial effects of travelling; notes respecting the mountains of Italy and on Madeira; and with 9 meteorological tables.

From the Preface,

"While briefly adverting to the leading features of particular localities, it has been my chief object to dwell more particularly upon those points upon which information is required by invalids, and the large class of travellers who seek to combine recreation with restoration to health". As such it "may be regarded as a greatly improved edition of the Continental Traveller and Invalid's Hand-book", (Lee Edwin, London, W.J. Adams, 1849).
