New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1938. First American edition. Hardcover. 286pp. Octavo [19.5 cm] Original green cloth with a gilt stamped title on the spine. Very good. The covers are mildly stained along the joints. The rear cover has a two tiny dark stains, and a jagged 4 inch long, light, jagged scratch mark. The spine is sunned. There is a small soiled scuff mark on the bottom edge of the text block. The endsheets are darkened, and there is a contemporary gift inscription on the front free endsheet. Treverton 436, Hagemann 123, Recknagel 447, Howard 5c. Most of B. Traven's work was originally published in Germany. His first book was The Death Ship.
