CLARK Edwin. 2 text volumes only of 3 (lacks pl vol) VG+, 1st ed, 1850, in red cloth, spines faded, gilt titles. Vol 1, map frontis, [3], (vi-xii), [1], 2-466 pp, 9 pls (includes 1 map). Vol 2, [3], (vi-vii), [1] pl list, [1], 2-821 pp, [1], (iv) subscribers list, 9 pls, both volumes lack half titles, evidence of removed book plate to both fpds, numerous illustrations within text. (235*148 mm). (Allibone 333. Anderson 346). Vol 1 contains a History of the Design. Section II. The Preliminary Experiments. Section 111. General Principles of Beams. Section IV Specific Experimental Inquiries and numerous tables and sketches within the text block. Volume 2 contains chapters on - Section V. History of the Design. Section VI Details of Construction of the bridges. Section VII The Construction and Erection of the Bridges. Section VIII Strength and Deflection of the Tubes. Section IX The Tides followed by an Appendix, which goes into the Contracts and Cost of the Bridges, Persons Employed in the Works and the Index plus numerous tables and technical sketches amongst the text blocks. Clark was elected a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, December 1850, and contributed many papers to their Proceedings, being awarded a Telford medal in 1866 for his paper -On the hydraulic lift graving dock-, and a Watt medal in 1868 for those on -The durability of materials-. Two years' residence in Buenos Aires, Paraguay, and Uruguay, provided material for his Visit to South America (1878). (ODNB)

However this does not mean that automatically goods are sent out on approval. Any return is entirely the responsibility of the returnee, and the Post Office is the preferred carrier. CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS You may request to cancel a book order or return a book within 14 days of receipt of the book. A book may be returned for one of the following reasons: Item damaged: The item was damaged during shipping. Item not as described: The condition of the book does not match the description on Madoc Books. Incorrect item delivered: The title, cover or edition of the book is different than the title on the order. Item not received: The estimated delivery date has passed and the book has still not arrived. To cancel a book order or return a book simply contact Madoc with your order confirmation details and to obtain the return address.

DELIVERY DETAILS We ship all of our orders via Royal Mail. Orders are usually shipped within 2 or 3 business days. Shipping costs are based on books weighing 2.2 LB, or 1 KG. If your book order is heavy or oversized or a multiple in books we will contact you to let you know that extra shipping is required. Insurance costs are usually dictated by the shippers, should they be higher than normal, then we will contact you for your acceptance.
