Hardcover Book and Dust Jacket in Fair Condition.16 pages of illustrations and Frontispiece in full color and over 250 photographs. Frontis: full color Constable's 'The Cornfield'. Artists whose landscape paintings are in full color are Gainsborough, Constable, Turner, Hollar, Sandby, Girtin, Crome, Cotman. Steer, Sickert, and Nevinson. These landscape paintings of the masters not only mirror the beauty of Britain but also traces the development of its buildings, its trades, tastes, and manners. It is actually quite a nice book. Bound in green full cloth, gilt titled on spine, blind-stamp structure on front. Most of the front cover is quite clean but there is mottling/fading at spine head and that corner and spine tail, also the back has whitish spots scattered on it. Edges and corners are rubbed not quite through cloth. Sewn binding is tight and solid. Ffep has prev owner brief inscription and a stamp. Interior is quite clean, no marks, no underlining. Jacket is edgeworn and has piece missing from spine head and tail, clean and bright with wrap-around illus of a village and surrounding countryside. The mylar cover goes a long way towards providing quite a nice vintage appearance. 320 pages with index. 9 x 6.25 inches. Odhams Press, London, England, 1948.
