London: Williams and Norgate, 1887. First edition. Quite fine. First edition. Tall 8vo.viii, 298p, (i, errata). Text illustrations and 12 full-page plates drawn by the author, 3 uncolored and 9 "colored from nature" by Miss Florence Woolward in excellent chromolithography by Hanhart. Bound in full green niger morocco with marbled endpapers, t.e.g., spine in 6 panels with gilt titles, decorative rules on the bands with floral ornaments in the panels, the covers with gilt borders of ornamental rolls, fancy dentelles. A very handsome binding on an important work by Day, British zoologist, pioneering ichthyologist, and Inspector-General of Fisheries in India and Burma.
